Creating a Community of Inspired Learners

This week's blogpost is centered on District 107's Mission and the Strategic Blueprint that is guiding how we are making our great district even better for our students.  District 107's Mission is "to create a community of inspired learners" and I believe this truly is our mission.  Remember a mission is what an organization wants to do right now.  What better undertaking for a school than the creation of a community of inspired learners?

Let's unpack this mission statement a little bit more (fully acknowledging that I am new to our district and wasn't a part of the conversations arriving at this mission statement) and learn what it means to me.

"Creating" means producing, making, fostering, constructing.  To examine the raw materials that are present and building something out of them.  These materials are the people in our entire school community, students, parents, and staff members.  Everyone brings something to the table to support our mission and as the principal or leader of the school, one of my roles is to help all people in the school community grow into even better versions of themselves.

"A [school] community" as stated above, includes students, parents, and staff members.  It also includes community leaders, neighbors, taxpayers and the general public who interact with any facets of the school.  We want our school and our district to be a beacon of positive light in the communities that we serve.

"Inspired" is defined as "of extraordinary quality" (dictionary.com) and I believe has connotations that are so amazing that they are out of this world.  We want to create an entire community of extraordinary quality so that our school community is an place in which all people thrive and grow.

"Learners" are people who are acquiring skills, knowledge, competencies through experiences. Isn't this what life is?  If our eyes are open to it, we are learning all of the time, both inside of school, but especially outside of school.

When you put this mission statement together, you can see why Pleasantdale School District 107 has our priorities straight and is focused on the right things by working everyday towards creating a community of inspired learners!
